Current and former students of the Indian Institutes of Technology – IIT offer advice on how to wrap up studies in the last month before the engineering entrance exams such as All Indian Engineering Entrance Examination, WBJEE and IITJEE.

It’s the season of exams. The boards are banging on the door, with a host of entrance tests lined up soon after. Why should I study now

Many students tend to gloss over chemistry in the final month. But remember, this is a paper that fetches the best scores. Next comes physics and then maths. AIEEE Experts believe maths should be given the least priority in this crucial time.

There’s a clear method to prioritising topics, says Nilanjan Sarkar of AIEEE Prep , an institute that mentors students for entrance tests to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT-JEE), AIEEE 2011 and WBJEEs. “Students shouldn’t get bogged down by the complexity of topics in, say, physics like rotational mechanics and waste valuable time; these are to be done at a much earlier stage,”. In physics, the order ought to be: calorimetry, units, dimensions and vectors, work, energy and power, experimental physics, heat transfer and modern physics.

“In maths, you should focus on concepts and revise theories from a book familiar to you,” says Samiran Sharma, an IITJEE Topper ." And don’t try to solve too many problems at the last moment.” Instead, revise all the formulae in trigonometry, algebra and calculus, and take a look at solved examples. The priority list : matrices and determinants, differentiation, limit and continuity, progressions, straight line, three dimensions and logarithm.

Again nothing beats practicing and AIEEE mock exams or AIEEE practice exams are the best way of giving yourself the exposure to do well in any situation.
